Overview: Moving your Blogger site from one Gmail account to another is simple, but doing it incorrectly can lock you out or break search indexing. Follow this guide for a zero-downtime transfer.
Phase 1: Step-by-Step Migration Process
Step 1 • Old Account
Send the Author Invitation
To initiate the transfer, invite your new Gmail account as a contributor:
- Log in to Blogger.com using your old email account.
- In the left menu, go to Settings.
- Scroll to Permissions and click Invite more authors.
- Enter your new email address and click Send.
Step 2 • New Account
Accept the Invitation
Before permissions can be changed, accept the pending request:
- Log into the inbox of your new email account.
- Open the invitation email from Blogger and click Accept Invitation.
- Confirm by signing into Blogger with your new account.
Step 3 • Old Account
Grant Admin Privileges
Upgrade the new account from Author to Admin status:
- Switch back to your old account in Blogger.
- Go to Settings > Permissions > Blog admins and authors.
- Find the new email address, open the dropdown next to it, and change Author to Admin.
- Click Save.
Step 4 • Final Transfer
Remove the Old Account
Once the new account is verified as Admin, revoke access from the old account:
- Under Settings > Permissions > Blog admins and authors.
- Locate your old email address.
- Click the X icon next to it to remove access.
Phase 2: Post-Migration Checklist
To keep your search ranking and monetization active, update these services:
| Service | Action Required | Priority |
|---|---|---|
| Google Search Console | Add new email as verified owner for indexing access. | Critical |
| Domain Registrar | Transfer custom domain account access if applicable. | Critical |
| Google Analytics | Grant admin user permissions to your new Gmail. | Recommended |
| Google AdSense | Add new Gmail under Access & Authorization. | Recommended |
Note on Custom Domains: Transferring Blogger ownership does not automatically transfer your domain subscription. Update your domain registrar login separately so your domain does not expire.
